Welcome to Fontaine des Magnarelles

Where does the name of our Bastide come from?

A bit of history to understand!

We are located in a green area covered by orchards and lavender, whose soil is animated by many small Sorgues, called the Sorguettes (small streams of water). The surrounding villages have kept the atmosphere of ancient times, and have kept the many fountains that once were highly active social places.

And also a bit of geography!

Our name is also inspired by the nearby village of Fontaine de Vaucluse and its natural 300m deep fountain, making it a unique place in the world.

Finally a bit of economy!

Our bastide has been built in the late XVIIIth century during the rise of silk production in Provence. The "magnaneries", surrounded by mulberry trees, allowed for the breeding of silkworms. The "magnarelles" were the mistresses in charge of the place back then.

Who are we?

Our love for Provence goes back to our childhood, having both grown up in the region. Nevertheless, our careers have led us to live in different regions of France and abroad, but it is in Provence that we came back to find the azure sky and the soft sun that accompany many months of the year.

The pleasure of living in a smiling population with a singing accent, the rhythm of the markets and their local products take you away from the stress of big cities.

Throughout your stay, we will care for your comfort and your well-being. We speak English and will enjoy exchanging with our non French-speaking visitors ... sometimes even using our hands!

Lots of green and blue around the house.

If the sound of the fountain is not enough to keep you cool during long summer days, our swimming pool (8x4m) welcomes you for some well-deserved relaxation.

Find your ideal spot to enjoy some reading or resting in the 3000 square meters of the park under the lime tree, the mulberry tree, the fig tree, the walnut trees or the olive trees.

  • A relaxing lounge with many books at your disposal on the region, touristic information, novels, and board games.

You have the choice among of variety of local products to start your day the right way. The selection varies depending on season to offer you only the most fresh and tasty ingredients. Provence ranks first in organic cultivated area in France!
